A reciprocal relationship is a relationship in which two variables (i.e., individuals or organizations) can mutually influence one another.
Reciprocity in relationships is the mutual exchange of energy and support between partners. There are three different types of reciprocity. Generalized reciprocity is giving without expecting a specific outcome. Balanced reciprocity is an equal give-and-take between parties. Negative reciprocity refers to an unequal exchange between parties.
People who reciprocally like each other typically initiate or develop a friendship or romantic relationship. Feelings of admiration, affection, love, and respect are characteristics of reciprocal liking between two individuals.
