Self-awareness is the experience of one’s personality or individuality. While consciousness is being aware of one’s environment, body and lifestyle, self-awareness is the recognition of that awareness.
Two examples of self-awareness are being able to focus on something positive when in a negative situation and being able to recognize a bad habit and the effect it can have on you. Self-awareness helps you learn about your emotional triggers, so you can better deal with negative emotions like anger or hate.
People who are not self-aware are afraid to be vulnerable. They are concerned about judgment and rejection by others, which causes them to remain unaware of their feelings, thoughts, motives, and behaviors.
